Swivel Seats

Swivel Seats

Now I have replaced my front bench with a single captain’s seat (see this post for more info on that!) I can install a pair of swivel bases.

I decided on the Kiravans Offset Swivels as they got some excellent reviews, specifically around lack of rattles and ease of rotation, plus they have loads of videos showing all aspects (including fitting and use). Plus I liked the idea of the offset making them better positioned in the cab when swiveled in ‘lounge mode’. They were also very responsive and helpful on chat and offer a very robust-looking returns policy (although I have not had experience of using it myself).

Fitting was pretty straightforward, although the instructions differed slightly from what was supplied. They state 6 bolts, whereas only 4 were supplied, but through trial and error I was able to make it work. The key is to take note of the countersunk heads and ensuring the bolts dont hit each other. You will most likely need to use your existing bolts. If you are not sure, PLEASE contact Kiravans directly as safety is obviously essential here. I am confident in my abilities around what goes where, but it’s best to be on the safe side. I had to trim the plastic cover that has the electrics control panel mounted to it as recommended in the instructions (a multitool makes quick work of this).

Passenger side went in today, driver’s tomorrow hopefully! See below for a video on swiveling the seat once installed (skip to 7:15 for just the swivel). I’m sure it will take a bit of time to get used to the best way to swivel it for my van and seats and the position that the seat is in to suit whoever sat in it last!

If you have airbags, ensure you disconnect your battery BEFORE STARTING and leave it for half an hour! You will trigger an airbag warning light if you do not do this that will require the (potentially costly) use of  VCDS to reset it.

Now we can put our feet up when camped or stopped for the day as the cab is now dual purpose!
