Sliding Door Ikea Blind Pod

Sliding Door Ikea Blind Pod

Having fitted Ikea Blinds to the rear quarters, the plan was always to do the same on both sliding doors and the tailgate.

I decided to keep the OEM trim on the sliding doors rather than replace it with plywood so I needed to add a frame to the top trim to allow the blind to be mounted. What I came up with is like a pod that holds the blind and fixes to the van using the original fixings. On a Shuttle there is not much space around the glass to attach anything to so using the OEM fixings and trim seemed like the easiest option. It had its downsides, such as making the template for the ply frame fit perfectly, and dealing with the aperture around the door handle, but overall I think it worked well and probably better than using a full-height ply panel.

Rather than write a comprehensive how-to, this build article is mostly captured in photos. Please get in touch if you would like more detail not shown in photos… I can also look to add a printable template for cutting your own ply frame to my store if I get enough interest.
